The remarkable original central upturned tree stump is also preserved there. In the historic park known as The Walks, the 15th-century Red Mount Chapel, a Grade I listed wayside chapel built for pilgrims on their way to the Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham, features an upper chamber rebuilt in 1506 with beautiful fan-vaulted ceilings that are quite unlike anything else in the region.

Nearby, Greyfriars Tower is one of only three surviving Franciscan monastery towers in England and served for centuries as a navigation landmark for sailors picking their way through the treacherous waters of The Wash.
